Toast is recruiting on behalf of this company, a well-established boutique accounting firm that provides comprehensive tax, assurance, and financial planning services to individuals and small to medium-sized businesses. They specialize in owner-operated businesses and are committed to delivering high-quality, client-focused service in a collaborative and growth-oriented environment.

They are looking for a motivated and experienced Senior Accountant with public practice experience. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys variety in their day-to-day work, excels in a client-service environment, and thrives in a small business setting. The ideal candidate values precision, communicates clearly, and is able to manage competing deadlines with independence and professionalism. This role involves working closely with Partners and supporting clients through accounting advisory, assurance, and tax-related responsibilities.
 

Responsibilities

 
  • Analyze complex accounting issues and evaluate internal controls and systems
  • Prepare financial and management reports to support client decision-making
  • Perform month-end closings and accruals
  • Prepare working papers and financial statements under ASPE and IFRS
  • Conduct audits and review engagements for a variety of clients
  • Prepare and/or review personal, corporate, and trust income tax returns
  • Draft tax accrual working papers and research tax positions
  • Communicate with tax authorities on audits and appeals
  • Advise clients on strategies to enhance business opportunities
  • Collaborate effectively with internal teams on assurance, accounting, and tax matters
 

Requirements

 
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in public practice, with exposure to both Tax and Assurance
  • CPA designation required; In-Depth Tax Course (IDTP) is an asset
  • Strong understanding of the Canadian Income Tax Act
  • Proficient in Caseware and Taxprep; experience with QuickBooks and Sage is an asset
  • Comfortable working with cloud-based tools and automation
  • Knowledge of ASPE and business processes/controls is advantageous
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Strong interpersonal skills and client-focused professionalism
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines independently
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, OneNote, SharePoint, OneDrive)
  • Strong time management, judgment, and analytical skills
