Toast is recruiting on behalf of this company for a Senior Full Stack Engineer to join the founding team of a newly launched venture transforming the insurance sector through innovative data orchestration infrastructure. This company is redefining how insurers build and scale operations—enabling faster innovation, smarter underwriting, and more human-centric experiences.

This company is building a cloud-native platform tailored to the unique needs of insurers. They are looking for a mission-driven engineer ready to shape the core of a high-impact product and work collaboratively in a hybrid, remote-first environment.

 

Responsibilities



Strategic & Cross-Functional Impact
  • Serve as a foundational team member shaping technical vision and product direction
  • Collaborate with leadership, design, and product teams to define the roadmap
  • Engage directly with early customers to gather feedback and iterate quickly

Full Stack Development & Infrastructure
  • Build and maintain scalable applications across the stack, primarily using Python and TypeScript
  • Architect and scale backend infrastructure in partnership with the CTO
  • Develop APIs, automate workflows, and ensure high performance and reliability

Engineering Excellence
  • Champion best practices in code quality, testing, CI/CD, and observability
  • Own end-to-end delivery of product features and technical systems
  • Mentor new team members and help cultivate a high-performing engineering culture

Agile & Iterative Execution
  • Drive a pragmatic, customer-centric development process
  • Navigate between strategic architecture and hands-on implementation
 

Requirements



Technical Expertise
  • 7+ years of experience in software engineering, with deep proficiency in Python and TypeScript
  • Experience designing and scaling distributed systems and APIs in cloud environments (e.g., AWS)
  • Familiarity with technologies such as Node.js, Docker, Kubernetes, Django, and FastAPI

Preferred Tech Stack
  • Required: TypeScript, Next.js, Python (Django), PostgreSQL, AWS, Temporal, Docker, Kubernetes
  • Valued: FastAPI, RESTful API design, RPA tools, and LLM APIs

Execution & Communication
  • Track record of delivering full-stack solutions, ideally in a startup or early-stage environment
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ownership, adaptability, and ability to thrive in ambiguity

Interview Process

  2. Introductory Interview – 30-minute conversation with the CTO
  3. Product Interview – 30-minute session with the Head of Product
  4. System Design Interview – 45-minute collaborative technical interview with the CTO and a senior engineer
  5. Take-Home Assignment – 2–3 hour coding exercise to demonstrate problem-solving and technical skills
  6. Presentation of Assignment – 30-minute review and discussion with the CTO, Head of Product, and senior engineer
  7. Offer – A formal offer extended to the selected candidate
