Toast is recruiting on behalf of this company for a Communications Specialist who will play a central role in connecting people, programs, and purpose through thoughtful and strategic communication. This company is a global, artist-led media co-operative building a values-driven, design-forward business, and this role is key to ensuring their internal and member communities stay aligned and engaged.
As Communications Specialist, you’ll lead internal communication efforts across the cooperative—from high-impact messaging to day-to-day updates. You’ll craft clear, inclusive, and engaging communications that reach a remote and international membership. Responsibilities
Member Communications & Engagement (40%)
- Design and execute cooperative-wide communication plans that reflect strategic priorities and promote clarity and connection.
- Manage and evolve communication channels including all-hands meetings, member newsletters, internal reports, the Annual General Meeting, and the Annual Report.
- Monitor and engage in member forums, responding with clarity and empathy, while coordinating cross-functional input when needed.
- Maintain the company’s internal Knowledge Hub, ensuring documentation and policies are accessible and up to date.
- Support engagement activities including milestones, celebrations, and recognition programs.
- Lead internal communication strategy for change management and new initiatives.
Project Communications & Coordination (25%)
- Participate in project management initiatives, applying lean and agile principles to improve delivery and coordination.
- Lead and support strategic communication efforts around key organizational projects.
- Serve as a liaison across departments to align messaging and timelines.
Governance & External Communications (25%)
- Manage cooperative communications related to governance activities, including proposals, voting, and compliance documentation.
- Act as a point of contact for co-op partnerships, responding to media, research, and community inquiries.
- Contribute to co-op reporting and help maintain relationships with external cooperative and creative communities.
Tools, Systems, and Process Improvement (10%)
- Help evaluate, onboard, and optimize tools that support communication and operational efficiency.
- Track engagement and communication KPIs to continually improve practices and outcomes.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in communications, operations, or related roles—preferably in a remote-first, tech-enabled environment.
- Proven success developing and implementing communication strategies in alignment with organizational goals.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills with the ability to convey complex topics simply and effectively.
- Experienced in managing internal content platforms, newsletters, and collaborative tools (e.g., GSuite, Slack, Asana).
- Experience communicating with remote and international audiences, with attention to cultural inclusivity and clarity.
- Ability to synthesize data and trends into clear and compelling communications.
- Preferred: Certified Scrum Master and/or formal project management training.

- Compensation: $60,000–$75,000 CAD annually, commensurate with experience.
