Job Description

Toast is looking for a Community & Toast Institute Lead to join our small but mighty all-women team. This is a boots-on-the-ground role for someone who loves people, thrives in a fast-moving environment, and gets energy from building things from scratch. You will own the member experience at the local level, grow your city chapter, and help bring Toast's mission to life through events, relationships, and smart community-building.

If you're hungry, flexible, and ready to roll up your sleeves, we want to hear from you.

What You'll Do

Toast Institute

  • Establish and manage partnerships with post-secondary institutions, community organizations, industry players, and other key stakeholders
  • Build a funding infrastructure through grants, partnerships, sponsorships, and other financial avenues; manage the full pipeline from prospecting to application to reporting
  • Enable grassroots fundraising campaigns; develop and execute a sponsorship strategy that supports Institute programming and reach
  • Serve as an ambassador; plan, run, attend, and report on events as required
  • Help establish the operational structure of the Toast Institute, including charitable tax receipt infrastructure, compliance, board composition, and governance framework

Toast Community Strategy & Growth

  • Own and drive Toast's national and international community and membership day to day operations; evaluate performance across all markets and reimagine the community offer across free and paid tiers
  • Define and own KPIs related to paid member and corporate growth, retention, engagement, and referrals; build systems and feedback loops to continuously improve the member experience
  • Set the strategic direction for Toast's community team; lead and support all Community Managers by setting clear strategy, priorities, and expectations; develop automations and workflows for logistics and day-to-day support
  • Own the strategy for city-level sponsorships; define targets, models, and positioning; equip Community Managers with the guidance and frameworks needed to support local sponsorship conversations
  • Set the overall strategy for member programming; own and drive flagship programs including weekly workshops, monthly coaching, the Toast Hackathon, Champions Program, Toast Summit, and the Gender Equity Report
  • Own the onboarding journey for all member audiences; ensure member communications across email, Slack, and the portal are clear, consistent, and value-driven; use qualitative and quantitative feedback to inform community decisions

What We're Looking For

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in community building, membership, events, or a closely related role
  • A self-starter who doesn't wait for direction — you see what needs to happen and make it happen
  • A builder mindset, you are someone who thrives in a fast-paced, scrappy environment where priorities can shift quickly
  • Highly flexible and adaptable, comfortable with ambiguity and change
  • Excellent communicator who can connect with a wide range of people
  • Comfortable with travel for events, community visits, and team gatherings
  • Organized and detail-oriented, even when juggling multiple things at once
  • Genuine love for community, gender diversity, and creating spaces where people belong

What We Offer

  • Comprehensive health benefits
  • Unlimited vacation — we trust you to take the time you need
  • A remote first work environment, with occasional in-person events.
  • This is an outcomes-based role. You'll have flexibility in how you structure your time, but consistent availability during core business hours is expected.
  • A close-knit, all-women team that supports and champions each other
  • Real ownership over your work from day one
