Job Description

Toast is recruiting on behalf of this company. They are seeking a Full Stack Developer to lead the development and maintenance of a Community platform—a trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, and accessible platform serving survivors of gender-based violence, particularly immigrant, refugee, and non-status women. This role is foundational to building scalable, ethical, and user-centered technology from the ground up.

This company is driving systemic change through digital innovation in the gender-based violence sector. They are committed to building inclusive tools that reflect and respect the communities they serve. This is a remote-first position with flexible working arrangements to support well-being and balance.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain full-stack applications using React, Node.js, and Express.
  • Implement scalable CI/CD pipelines and a structured Backend-for-Frontend (BFF) architecture.
  • Ensure responsive, cross-platform functionality and compliance with accessibility (WCAG 2.1) and trauma-informed design standards.
  • Integrate secure and ethical data flows with both SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • Monitor, test, and optimize application performance using modern tools and practices.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve complex front-end and back-end issues.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including design, product, and external development partners.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, contribute technical documentation, and support knowledge sharing across the team.
  • Stay current with emerging tools and practices to ensure secure, user-focused, and future-ready solutions.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience as a full stack developer with strong front-end and back-end skills.
  • Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML5, CSS3, and frameworks like React and Node.js.
  • Experience working with SQL and NoSQL databases, including MySQL or MariaDB.
  • Strong understanding of secure authentication, API integration, and CI/CD workflows.
  • Familiarity with Git, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), and responsive web development.
  • Demonstrated ability to build accessible, user-centered platforms in Agile environments.
  • Clear, empathetic communication skills with a commitment to inclusive, trauma-informed design.
  • Eligible to work in Canada; background check required upon offer.
  • International or multilingual development experience is considered an asset.

Benefits

  • Remote-first work with flexible scheduling to support personal and family needs.
  • Competitive salary range of $100,000–$115,000 CAD, with full benefits.
  • 10 days paid vacation, plus summer and winter holiday breaks.
  • Professional development opportunities including training in trauma-informed and culturally sensitive design.
  • Collaborative, mission-driven culture grounded in empathy, innovation, and inclusion.
