Job Description

Toast is looking for a Developer to join our small but mighty all-women team. This is a hands-on role for someone who loves clean code, thrives in a fast-moving startup environment, and gets energy from building things that actually matter. You will own the frontend experience of our recruitment platform, work directly alongside the founding engineer as a true technical partner, and help shape the product from the inside out. Our stack is modern, our roadmap is ambitious, and we are moving fast. If you are self-directed, detail-obsessed, and ready to roll up your sleeves, we want to hear from you.

Responsibilities

  • Build, maintain, and iterate on the Toast portal frontend across candidate, client, and internal-facing surfaces
  • Own the CMS integration layer for content-driven pages and new features using Sanity
  • Implement and maintain payment and subscription UI flows through Stripe, handling both frontend and backend integration with care and precision
  • Build and refine AI-powered chat interfaces and interactive product features
  • Develop and maintain job board listing, search, and application experiences
  • Build internal tools and dashboards for the operations team
  • Ensure responsive design, accessibility, and cross-browser consistency across the application
  • Write and maintain frontend tests and participate in code review following established Git and CI/CD workflows
  • Monitor and optimize frontend performance and page load times on an ongoing basis
  • Integrate with third-party APIs and services as the platform scales and new tools are introduced
  • Collaborate with the founding engineer on technical decisions and architecture, contributing to sprint planning and feature scoping as a genuine thought partner
  • Share in troubleshooting and debugging production issues, including on-call responsibility

Requirements

  • Strong proficiency in React and Next.js, including performance optimization and ideally some architectural experience
  • TypeScript fluency, as the frontend codebase is almost exclusively TypeScript
  • Solid understanding of Stripe, including both frontend and backend integration patterns
  • Experience with Tailwind CSS
  • Familiarity with CMS platforms, with Sanity experience being a strong asset
  • Demonstrated ability to own responsive design end to end, not just implement it when asked
  • Full-stack capability with a front-end lean, comfortable contributing across the stack while primarily owning the frontend
  • Familiarity with AWS is a nice-to-have, as the platform is moving in that direction
  • A figure-it-out mentality: detail-oriented, self-directed, and able to work through ambiguous problems without hand-holding
  • Someone who takes ownership seriously and treats their work as a craft, not a task list

Benefits

  • Comprehensive health benefits
  • Unlimited vacation, we trust you to take the time you need
  • A remote-first work environment, with occasional in-person events
  • This is an outcomes-based role. You will have flexibility in how you structure your time, but consistent availability during core business hours is expected
  • A close-knit, all-women team that supports and champions each other
  • Real ownership over your work from day one, at a company building something genuinely new in the recruitment technology space
