Manager, Data Platform(s) Architect, Data & AI

Job Description

Toast is recruiting on behalf of a global professional services firm with thousands of people across Canada for a Manager, Data Platform Architect to join its Data and AI practice in Calgary or Vancouver. This practice is one of the firm’s fastest growing, with strong demand from clients across sectors to modernize their data platforms and put AI into production. The team helps organizations get the most out of the lakehouse model, with a focus on Databricks and Microsoft Fabric, to build trustworthy, secure and scalable AI. In this role, you will lead the architecture and delivery of end to end data and AI solutions, mentor a team of engineers and data scientists, and play a key part in winning and shaping new client work.
 

Responsibilities 

• Partner with cross functional engagement teams to turn business and analytics needs into a clear data, analytics and AI strategy for each engagement
• Architect end to end data and analytics solutions across data lakes, warehouses, lakehouses and pipelines on platforms such as Microsoft Fabric, Databricks and Snowflake, primarily on Azure, with AWS and GCP as well
• Lead the deployment and delivery of solutions through design, build, testing and launch, with a focus on quality and operational excellence
• Design modern data foundations including streaming and batch pipelines, medallion architecture, semantic layers and data products
• Lead the design and implementation of CI/CD pipelines for application, data and AI workloads across environments
• Analyze, troubleshoot and resolve issues on existing modern data platforms
• Mentor a team of data engineers, software developers and data scientists
• Drive pre-sales activity including partner collaboration, proposal writing, RFP responses, solution demos, proofs of concept and technical storytelling
• Build accelerators, ingestion frameworks, CI/CD and MLOps templates, and platform standards
• Own scoping, estimation and task planning for assigned projects, along with delivery outcomes for timelines, quality and stability
• Embed data management best practices across architecture, modeling, master data, metadata, security, privacy, data quality, operations and integration
• Stay current on new and emerging technologies

Requirements

• 8+ years of consulting experience leading data engineering, analytics and AI initiatives, including the architecture, design and implementation of complex, scalable data platforms
• Hands-on expertise with Databricks and Microsoft Fabric across the full data and analytics lifecycle
• Cloud proficiency in Azure, AWS or GCP, including identity, networking, security and integration with data services
• Expert skills in SQL, Python and distributed data processing
• Deep understanding of data management, including architecture, engineering, governance and data quality
• Strong delivery leadership, including estimation, planning and stakeholder communication
• Ability to translate business needs into practical, cost effective technical solutions
• Relevant certifications in Databricks, Fabric or cloud architecture
• Experience leading diverse teams and managing multiple engagements and stakeholder expectations at once
• A solutions oriented, analytical mindset and comfort guiding others through complex, ambiguous challenges
• Exceptional written and verbal communication, including presentations, reports and documentation
• A self-starter who invests in their own growth and contributes to the success of the wider practice
• A strong professional presence in the community, with interest in contributing to and participating in events
