Job Description

Toast is recruiting on behalf of one of the world’s largest professional services firms for a Senior Consultant, Databricks Data Engineer to join its Data & AI practice in Calgary or Vancouver. With thousands of professionals across Canada, the firm advises many of the country’s largest organizations on audit, tax and advisory, and its digital team is helping clients move off legacy and on-prem data platforms onto scalable, secure and cost-optimized Lakehouse architectures. This is a hands-on, client-facing role for a data engineer who loves building modern platforms and is ready to lead workstreams on high-profile modernization projects.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with clients to understand their business goals, gather requirements and turn them into technical designs and delivery plans
  • Work with the engagement team to translate business and analytics needs into a data strategy, including ETL/ELT, data models and staging data for analysis
  • Contribute to end-to-end solution architecture for repeatable, cost-optimized implementations, including non-functional requirements and operational readiness
  • Lead delivery of modern data platforms on Databricks, including ETL/ELT pipelines, workload migrations and governance enablement
  • Implement Delta Lake and Lakehouse patterns such as medallion architecture, CDC, incremental processing and data quality controls
  • Design and build scalable batch and streaming pipelines using Spark and modern orchestration patterns
  • Apply CI/CD and engineering best practices, including version control, automated deployment, testing and release management, to data engineering workflows
  • Set up and operationalize governance with Unity Catalog, covering access controls, lineage and security frameworks
  • Support testing and production releases through troubleshooting, performance tuning and stabilization
  • Help create presentation materials on data activities for stakeholder discussions

Requirements

  • University degree in computer engineering, mathematics, data science or a related discipline
  • 4+ years of experience in data engineering, business intelligence or a related field, with a track record of processing and extracting value from large datasets
  • 2+ years of hands-on Databricks experience, including advanced features like Delta Lake and Unity Catalog
  • 1 to 2 years of experience leading workstreams or client-facing delivery
  • Strong SQL skills and a solid grasp of data modeling, dimensional modeling and data warehousing concepts
  • Proficiency in Python or a similar scripting language for data processing, automation and analytical workflows
  • Experience performing ETL across a variety of databases, both SQL and NoSQL
  • Proven experience leading large-scale data migrations, including moving legacy platforms or ETL workloads to cloud-native environments
  • Experience applying CI/CD practices to data engineering, including version control, automated deployment and pipeline orchestration
  • Ability to independently review data quality and definitions and perform data cleansing and management tasks
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams on complex data challenges, including semi-structured and unstructured data
  • Experience with at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure or GCP), with an understanding of cloud-native services, identity management and scalable architecture
  • A Databricks Certified Data Engineer certification (Associate or Professional) or a relevant AWS, Azure or GCP data or architecture certification would be a plus

Benefits

  • Compensation listed on the posting is for base salary only. Total compensation includes base salary + annual bonuses.
  • Lead modernization projects that move some of Canada’s largest organizations off legacy systems and onto platforms that power their analytics and AI work for years to come
  • Hands-on ownership of Databricks builds from requirements through production, with direct client exposure that accelerates your path to senior delivery and leadership roles
  • Join a firm actively investing in AI and an inclusive, barrier-free workplace, with adjustments and accommodations available throughout the hiring process
